Autism Siblings Group
Our Autism Siblings Group is continuing, starting this month – Oct. 25th, 9-11am with the help of two wonderful volunteers – Sara Legge and Julie Brant.
Sarah Legge recently moved to Fishers from the Chicago area, with her husband and three daughters - the oldest of whom has autism. Sarah has found having a child with autism is both challenging and extremely enlightening. She has found her niche in working with these great children! In the Chicago area, she stayed very busy as a certified developmental therapist, trained ABA therapist and parent advocate for many families who had children on the autistic spectrum.
Having twin daughters who are not on the spectrum, Sarah feels very strongly about meeting the emotional and social needs of the siblings. She is very excited to be involved with the Hamilton County Autism Siblings Group and is looking forward to meeting all of the parents and their children!
Julie Brant met a little boy with autism, in May 2001. Shebegan providing ABA therapy until May 2003, when she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Purdue University . While she pursued a Master of Social Work degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis in 2004, a little girl with autism came into her life. She began working as an ABA therapist until the family found an intervention called RDI: Relationship Development Intervention®. She worked as an RDI extender with a few different families until January 2007. She knew that she had found her purpose in life.
After internships in school settings, she received her master’s degree in May 2006 to pursue a position as a school social worker in the private schools part-time, while she began building The Hope Source, Inc. to serve families and their children and adolescents with autism. In January 2007, she went to Houston to begin her intensive training and supervision to become a RDI® Program Certified Consultant, the first consultant in Indiana . After 18 months, she had received her certification and now serve families from all over Indiana , Ohio , and Kentucky .
The Hope Source, Inc. and the RDI® Program has given her the opportunity to work with families and educators, supporting them through every aspect of the child’s life, at home and at school. She feels blessed everyday to see the quality of life improve not only for the child, but for everyone who loves the child.
